Lewistown Woman takes to the streets to raise funds in the Fight Against Breast Cancer PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 10 March 2010 10:59
Sixty miles, three days, thousands of steps, and months of preparation to make a personal difference in finding the cures. Amber Jones, Lewistown resident, has joined thousands of breast cancer supporters in preparing for the 2010 Susan G. Komen Twin Cities 3-Day for the CureTM. After months of training and fundraising, participants will walk 60 miles during three days to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and community-based breast health and education programs.

“This is my first year participating in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure,” said Jones. “Through my participation in this event I know I am making a personal impact on the breast cancer movement. The Komen 3-Day for the Cure is challenging, but the opportunity to have an impact is enormous.”

“There are many incredible women in my life that I am dedicating my walk to,” said Jones. “I have family members and friends that have fought the battle with breast cancer, or are still fighting. Not only am I dedicating my walk to the many who have dealt with breast cancer first hand, but also to all the other women that are at risk.

“Participating in this event is one way that I can make an impact and do my part to end the fight against breast cancer.”

Jones has set a fundraising goal of $2,300 for the event. Net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment.

On Sunday, March 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Jones will be hosting a fundraising event at the Zion Lutheran Church, 604 W. Evelyn. A fun afternoon of Bingo has been planned, with Pampered Chef demonstrations and sales, and a silent auction. Pampered Chef will be donating 15% of the proceeds of all the sales made at the event, and all other money earned from the silent auction and the sale of Bingo cards will be going towards Jones’ fundraising goal. The event is open to the public, and all of those wanting to learn more about the 3-Day for the Cure event are encouraged to attend.

More than 1.3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer globally each year. About Susan G. Komen for the Cure®

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure®, we have invested nearly $1.5 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
