The City of Lewistown has partnered with homeWORD, a Missoula-based, nationally recognized, affordable housing developer.
The housing project, in construction near the old hospital building on East Main Street, is under the direction Duane Ferdinand and the City’s Local Housing Committee. According to Kevin Myhre, Lewistown’s City Manager, the affordable housing project has been underway for the past four years, and is looking at another year and half before its conclusion.
Birdwell Builders received the contract in the fall of 2009 and will renovate the old nurses station in the old hospital, and add two new buildings to complete approximately 28 new apartments.
homeWORD began as a project of WORD (Women’s Opportunity and Resource Development, Inc.) in 1994. It formed as a response to the community need for affordable housing and aimed to provide meaningful economic change in lower income families’ lives.
